Aims & Objectives

The aims of African Interdisciplinary Studies Association (AISA) are to support interdisciplinary research and teaching. AISA hopes to encourage multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary culture that promotes exchange of ideas across disciplines. The aim is to ensure that scholars from all disciplines understand what takes place in other disciplines besides their own in order to enrich their own experiences. AISA hopes to promote comparative analysis as well as promoting international and holistic understanding of knowledge. AISA seeks to debunk disciplinary borders, pigeonholes and fragmentation of knowledge, promoting a new and creating perception of knowledge through wider and broad horizons and prisms. AISA hopes to bring an understanding of comparative matrix to bear on the major research issues and problems on African continent. The objective is to promote wide range of research interests and findings that assist in confronting the challenges that face the African continent and beyond. The aim is to foster interdisciplinary research, discussion and teaching by persons from different fields and from different parts of the world in order to find and establish solutions collectively. The hope is that different disciplines bring different strengths and interesting knowledge to every research and teaching experience.

AISA seeks to improve the exchange of information about research and methodological experience in interdisciplinary research and teaching in Africa and beyond. AISA promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in the development of comparative approaches to the study of the African continent in the understanding that no one discipline can have the monopoly of knowledge in addressing the Continent’s development problems. AISA organises research projects that promote development needs in Africa. AISA improves the exchange of information about interdisciplinary research and teaching on the African continent and beyond. AISA liaises with scholars, other associations, societies and institutions from different countries to promote the growth and development of interdisciplinary research in the world. AISA disseminates research and conference proceedings through various journals and edited anthologies and edited volumes on particular themes.
